We’re famous.

Cutloose going Totally Wild

If you had better things to do at 8am this morning than watch childrens programs, you may have missed the Cutloose Surf feature on Totally Wild!

The star of the show was Cutloose Surf Store Manager Leah Enthoven! She had a chat to Totally Wild presenter Tess Dobre about finding the right surfboard for the right person.

Our shaper Mick Higgins then schooled Tess about the basics of shaping a surfboard. Tess avoided severe punishment and was only held hostage my Mick for 35 minutes.

Even our ding repairer / spray bay extraodinaire Sam Culbertson got in the way of the camera for a brief moment!

Here is the link to the feature on Totally Wild!

Pyrofreak Shipment

Yep, that’s right, the newest super dooper wetsuit from O’Neill has arrived exclusively at Cutloose!

They have called this gem the Pyrofreak.

Wetsuit quality is defined by its seams. For years, wetsuit designers worked to make the seams watertight. Then the quest was to make them more flexible. Now the challenge is to make smaller and lighter seams. O’Neill has come up with the answer…. the ‘SuperSeam’. The new thinner lighter seams are the first of its kind in the world and is 60% lighter than O’Neill’s previous seams. And where the old one was 20 millimeters, this one is only 8. That translates into a lighter and more flexible suit, which translates into more high performance surfing in the winter freeze.

Oh yeah, have I told you that Cutloose Surf is only one of two retailer in Australia to get their hands on this suit, and the only crew in South Australia! the downside is that stock is really limited and there are only 8 4/3′s left!!! Get in real quick folks because these guys will be gone within a week!

Board Swap’n Goodness

The Cutloose Surf Board Swap went off with a bang on Sunday 10th April! The event started at midday, but by 11:30 there was mayhem in the Cutloose carpark. Next time, makeshift carpark etiquette guidelines will be enforced (thanks to the guy with the massive winnebaygo). By Midday, the shindig was all go and punters were wheeling and dealing their lives and wives away just to grasp their piece of Australian surfing history!

The day kept going from strength-to-strength as three vegetarians attepted to feed the masses the best way they know how…. a BBQ? All is well that ends well, and we haven’t heard from anyone since. Hmmmm. Mick Higgins provided the crowd with entertainment as he yelled through the glass to crew whilst shaping a 7’2 mini mal in the Cutloose instore shaping bay!

The fully restored 1964 McDonagh 9’2 Mal was a showcase amongst the crowd along with the Mark Richards board, an original Drouyn, ‘The Pot ‘ and a couple of vintage Lip Stix and Rip ‘n’ Tear classics straight from the evalution of Cutloose! However, the board that stole the show was the Bobby Brown stringerless replica on display! Check out our ‘Bobby Brown Stringerless’ blog to check this gem out!

Cheers for everyone that came out to the Cutloose Board Swap, it was a day to remember. Also, check out the heap of photo’s on Facebook!

Bobby Brown Stringless

G&S Australia have just released a limited range of 10 Bobby Brown stringless models. Replicated off the last-ever surfboard he rode and shaped until his untimely death in August 1967, this board still stands in time as one of the last great longboard models before the short-board revolution, and a true testament to Bobby’s craftsmans…hip and design innovation.

Cutloose is stoked to get its hands on the number 3 of 10 board that is shaped and signed by Bobby’s close friend and mentor Floyd Smith who helped Bobby create this model in 1967. These boards are exact replicas and feature full volan glass and glassed on fin with the signature spoon concave. This historic board will be on display at the Cutloose Board Swap this Sunday the 10th April. Get down to the board swap to witness this piece of Australian surfing history!
